Born in Toulouse in 1979, Michaël Ertzscheid began studying the piano at the age of 8. From 16 to 26 years old, he studied in various Conservatoires (Toulouse, Paris and Boulogne CRRs, CNSM de Paris). Curious and insatiable, he benefited from these 10 years to acquire the most complete musical training possible, meet top-level teachers (M.P. Siruguet, H. Cartier Bresson, T. Escaich, A. Louvier, P.L. Aimard…) and obtain first prizes in piano, analysis, chamber music, harmony, counterpoint, fuga, improvisation… simultaneously, he took part in numerous masterclasses and benefited from the guidance of great musicians (Arie Vardi, Leon Fleischer, Jean François Heisser, Hatto Beyerie, Maria Kliegel). He is the laureate of the EMCY competition (European Music Competition for Youth), the Yamaha competition and had a SACEM scholarship.
His lifetime passion for sight-reading, accompaniment and symphonic repertoire allowed him to obtain a first prize in the demanding class of Jean Koerner at the CNSM de Paris. This striking encounter led him to work under the direction of Pierre Boulez, Kasuchi Ono, John Axelrod, Christoph Eschenbach, Peter Eotvos, or François-Xavier Roth, and to accompany international competitions and masterclasses.
Regularly invited to several festivals, he multiplied experiences as a chamber music player, soloist and improviser, in France and abroad (USA, UK, Austria, Italy, Romania, Colombia, Switzerland, Belgium, Japan…) and appeared in prestigious halls (Théâtre du Châtelet, Corum in Montpellier, Royal Opera House, Salle Pleyel, Théâtre Mogador, Cité de la Musique, Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall, Unesco, Salle Cortot, Cirque d'hiver, Institut du monde arabe, Musée d'art et d'histoire du judaïsme, Café de la danse…).
Passionate about chamber music, he is thrilled to share the stage with talented musicians from all generations (Noël Lee, Voce quartet, R. Capuçon, F. Millischer, J. Dieudegard, X. Gagnepain, A.L. Gastaldi, C. Poiget, M. Michalakakos…). He regularly plays in 4 hands piano with Florestan Boutin (Reynaldo duo), and among the Voltaire trio. In 2016 he released a CD, "Hikari", recorded with saxophone player Jérôme Laran, at Klarthe record company; another one is to be released in 2017 with violinist Isabelle Durin at Paraty company.
He is an advocate of contemporary music, creates pieces as part of Opus Neuf, orders works to young composers, and continues to collect scores and unravel the huge piano repertoire to discover unknown treasures.
Alongside his classical training, his musical path crosses that of original characters like Bartabas, Damon Albarn, Elise Caron ; he worked with the troupes of Pina Bausch and Merce Cunningham, accompanies silent films, participated in the international tour for the 50th birthday of West Side Story, and appeared in the orchestra "Les siècles" and "Frivolités parisiennes".
As a musician keen on teaching, sharing is at the center of his activity. Holder of a Certificat d'Aptitude after finishing his pedagogy class at the CNSMDP, he taught accompaniment at the CNSM and analysis at the CRR de Paris. He currently teaches piano at the Pôle Supérieur de Piano de Boulogne-Billancourt and at the CRR de Boulogne-Billancourt, and regularly welcomes tutored students in his class.
Moreover, he works at a mediator and a lecturer at the Philharmonie de Paris, à the Opéra Bastille and at the Sorbonne, gives masterclasses and conferences (Piano and improvisation in Grenada, synesthaesia and music in Paris, Symbolism of keys for the Haydn Project in Eisenstadt…), and just published an article on musical improvisation (Musical and musician trainings).
